PUBLIC NOTICE: TEMPORARY CLOSING OF ROADS Pursuant to Article 40, Section 1650 of New York State Vehicle & Traffic Law, The Franklin County Highway Department advises that there will be a temporary closing of all County Roads, starting March 4, 2024, to any vehicle with a gross weight of more than 5 tons per axle. County permit applications for County Rds. for those performing essential local pick up or delivery services are available at the Franklin County Highway Department. Names of County Roads shall be those as shown on the current Highway Map of Franklin County, New York State. Such Map is available for inspection during regular working hours at the County Highway Office, 14981 State Route 30, Malone, NY. All heavy duty contractors, well drillers, haulers of concrete, sand logs, lumber, gravel, crushed stone, blocks, fuel oil, gasoline, and similar items should take notice and arrange their work schedules accordingly. Cooperation during spring thawing will protect the public investment in our roads
Description:
The Franklin County Department of Highways is located on State Route 30, Malone, NY. It operates according to the Highway Laws of the State of New York. The Department of Highway's main objectives are: to maintain, repair, improve and rebuild the County owned roads and bridges. The Department is responsible for:
- Maintaining and improving over 266.28 miles of roads.
- Maintaining 188 County owned bridges.
- Removal of snow and ice in winter months.
- Installing guide railings and road signs.
- Repairing and maintenance of all County vehicles.
All traffic signing, road stripping, traffic control for work zones, road and bridge closings and restricted highways, traffic lights, detours, etc. are installed, constructed and erected in conformance with the New York State Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
